§ 02 — Sound familiar?

What's keeping you up at night.

If any of these sound familiar, you're not alone. These are the exact problems I solve every day — for Amazon FBA sellers, sole-traders or sole-proprietors and small e-commerce businesses.

Pain 01

"I have no idea if I'm actually making money"

Transactions uncategorised, Amazon settlements a mystery, bank feeds ignored — your P&L is basically fiction. You're pricing and ordering stock on gut feel instead of real numbers.

Pain 02

"Amazon settlements make no sense"

Fees, refunds, FBA charges, reimbursements and multi-channel payouts all netted into one deposit. Nothing ties to your sales — and COGS is a guess.

Pain 03

"Self-Assessment makes me want to hide"

January 31st looms like a dark cloud. Scrambling for receipts, guessing at expenses, praying you don't get a penalty letter from HMRC.

Pain 04

"I'm probably paying too much tax"

You suspect you're missing allowable expenses and inventory deductions — but who has time to dig through 12 months of statements and settlement reports?

Pain 05

"Inventory? I just… hope?"

No reliable COGS, no valuation that ties to the P&L, no reorder clarity. Stock-outs and overstock quietly eat your margin.

Pain 06

"My accountant sighs at my books"

Year-end is stressful because nothing is organised. Your accountant bills extra hours for cleanup before the real work even starts.

Clear, accurate numbers

Real-time P&L, balance sheet and cash flow that actually reflect your FBA business — by channel, by SKU group.

A2X-grade reconciliation

Every Amazon payout split, mapped and tied out. Fees, refunds and COGS where they belong.

Tax without the stress

Self-Assessment ready weeks early. Tax-ready workpapers your CPA can file from — no cleanup.

Your evenings back

No more midnight QuickBooks. Focus on sourcing, listings and growth — I handle the ledgers.

§ 03 — The practice

A specialist, not a generalist.

E-commerce exclusively, with a deep focus on Amazon FBA — settlement reconciliation, accurate COGS tracking and multi-channel sales tax, so your books reflect true profitability.

JD Umpa — e-commerce bookkeeping specialist QBO and Xero Specialist Your guide through the numbers

My journey into bookkeeping might not be what you expect. For years, I honed a disciplined, process-driven approach in a detail-heavy, structured environment. That background instilled in me a deep appreciation for accuracy, clear systems, and the critical importance of reliable data.

What drew me to bookkeeping — specifically for e-commerce — was seeing how much small business owners struggled with the financial intricacies of online sales. They're often experts at product sourcing and marketing, but the accounting behind Amazon FBA settlements, inventory COGS, and multi-channel reconciliation quickly becomes a tangled mess.

Today, I channel that same rigorous discipline into building robust, decision-ready bookkeeping systems for e-commerce businesses, particularly Amazon FBA. I specialize in untangling complex transactions, ensuring accurate inventory costing, and providing the clear financial insights generalist bookkeepers often miss. My focus isn't just on recording transactions — it's about clean workflows and reliable data you can truly act on.

Beyond the core platforms, I've developed deep fluency in niche tools like A2X — crucial for precise Amazon settlement reconciliation — and app-stack integrations with tools like SaasAnt to automate data entry and enhance efficiency.

Primary niche: E-commerce — Amazon FBA QBO / Xero A2X Amazon Seller Central Stripe / PayPal SaasAnt · Hubdoc · Gusto · Bill.com

Case study — Catch-Up to Reconciled Close

From a folder of PDFs to tax-ready quarterly books in 90 days.

Client details anonymized; figures rounded. Real engagement, Q1 (January–March). Sole-proprietor service business with product sales mixed in — invoices in, costs everywhere.

The starting mess

Bank and card statements PDF-only, a full year of processor history in one giant PDF, an invoice list with a hole in its numbering, a ~1,000-row bill list from the wrong year, and no source at all for three new accounts. Classic catch-up — not negligence, just no close discipline.

Gap analysis first

Instead of typing bad data faster, I sequenced what should exist against what did — every invoice number, every statement, every loan disbursement matched to a deposit. One targeted request, answered in one round.

System built

Full quarterly close in cloud accounting using all four entry paths where each wins: line-item detail for PDF bills and loans, batch CSV for bank history, spreadsheet sync for bulk invoices, bulk-import for volume — opening balances tied to the prior-year trial balance to the penny. Underneath: statement normalization, transfer-matching, pending-transaction quarantine, a ~90-payee category map, monthly depreciation and gross reversal pairs that survive CPA review.

Ongoing value

Reusable templates going forward: auto-classifying category map, correctly split loan registers, and a quarter-end package (P&L, balance sheet, A/R + A/P aging, reconciliation summaries). Next quarter is maintenance — not another rescue.

~$18KQuarterly income reconciled, ~$7K COGS, ~$12K gross profit — the bottom line finally explained
$0Overdue payables at close. Checking, card and processor registers all tied to statements
1 roundSingle missing-items list to close the gaps — then a package a CPA can file from with zero cleanup
§ 07 — The process

Five phases. No surprises.

A structured, transparent engagement — from first call to ongoing monthly maintenance.

II

Set up the system

Setting up or optimizing QBO/Xero — a robust, tailored foundation for accurate tracking.

IV

Prepare analysis

Clear, insightful reports and analyses — the data for informed decision-making.

V

Maintain the books
